The formidable mountain range, which separates the Iberian peninsular from the rest of western Europe, is some 270 miles in length along Spain's northern border. Join us as we ride the mountains eastward through the old kingdoms of Navarre, Aragon and Catalonia staying in first class hotels and discovering some fantastic biking roads with breathtaking scenery.
Just to get us in the holiday mood, our journey starts with a 2 night leisurely mini-cruise across the Bay of Biscay to the northern Spanish port of Bilbao. From here we jump on the bikes and ride eastward leaving the Cantabrian coast behind to enjoy our first taste of Spanish hospitality for 2 nights in a beautiful village, just south of Pamplona, where our 4 star luxurious Parador adjoins a medieval castle - no more dungeons here though - now the accommodation is wonderful!
After a couple of days we then continue east into Aragon to our next 4 star Parador hotel, with pool, for another 2 nights of luxury in the central Pyrenees.
Leaving the Aragonese experience behind, it's onward to western Catalonia and La Cerdanya, the Pyrenees widest valley that, unlike any other valley in the upper Pyrenees, runs east-west and thus has a record annual number of hours of sunlight. Here we stay for a further 2 nights in our hotel close to the border with Andorra which boasts a lovely outdoor pool and bar.
From here we drop down to the Mediterranean sea, riding along the Costa Brava coastline where we will stay for 3 nights. During our stay on the coast we can enjoy a varied choice of bars, restaurants and nightlife. For those who wish to have a day off the bike, Barcelona is very close and is a great place for shopping or site-seeing, or perhaps just a leisurely day on the beach is for you - Barcelona, beach or biking - it's up to you!
We then leave Spain behind riding north and over the border into the French Pyrenees for the first of three nights on our return leg to Calais.
