Croatia and Slovenia

12th July to 27th July 2008 (15 nights)

4 nights bed & breakfast, 9 nights half-board, 2 nights overnight ferry crossing

Waiting for us are clear blue seas, mountains, vast forests, beautiful karst caves, deep gorges created by clear mountain rivers, mountain lakes, ancient villages and old castles.

Croatia is indeed unique, not only for its crystal clear, clean blue sea, but also for a thousand years of different cultures that have replaced each other and sometimes assimilated in these areas. While Slovenia is another one of Europe's delightful surprises, a country that lies between the Alps, the Mediterranean, and the Pannonian plain, which embraces all the beauties of the Old Continent. Slovenia and Croatia geographically straddles both Western and Eastern Europe where Romaic, Germanic, and Slavic cultures meet.

After 3 nights transiting Europe - one night in the Rheinland, one night in Bavaria, and a further night in Austria, we cross north-eastern Italy, through western Slovenia, and then into Croatia where we slow down the pace. Our base in Croatia is in the Adriatic coastal resort of Opatija where we stay for 3 nights in our 5***** star hotel next to the sea. Opatija, often called the Nice of the Adriatic, is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Croatia and is a place with the longest tourist tradition on the eastern coast of the Adriatic. This is a wonderful place to stroll out in the evening, pausing at one or two cafe-bars along the promenade after dinner. This is a unique area in Europe for not only cruising with motorboats, speedboats, or sailboats, but also for enjoying the wonderful roads, mountains and islands on your motorcycle.

We then ride north into Slovenia riding along the beautiful Soca Valley, with historical towns and villages dotted along the River Soca itself, toward the Julian Alps to the beautiful town of Kranjska Gora. Here we stay for another 4 nights, providing us with the opportunity to discover the mountainous Triglav National Park, Lake Bled and the equally beautiful but larger Lake Bohinj. Our hotel here boasts many amenities including an indoor swimming pool and is close to many bars and restaurants in the town.

These are beautiful countries, with warm friendly people, where the cost of living is still very much in our favour! This tour is highly recommended.
